Sister Nivedita Heritage Knowledge Center

A historic home, with more stories to tell.

Kolkata

Interactive interpretation brings Sister Nivedita’s life into focus while respecting the character of her heritage home.

Nine interactions were woven into existing rooms and objects. Bookshelves, a study and courtyard spaces become points of discovery. Digital layers share archives and personal stories without requiring the historic rooms to become conventional display galleries.

Read into a remarkable life.

An interactive flipbook presents manuscripts, photographs and archival records from Sister Nivedita’s literary journey. Visitors can follow themes across her writing and public life while the quiet, page-based interaction remains appropriate to the intimacy of the restored home.

A window into the past.

A bioscope-inspired portal presents cinematic moments from her life through a familiar physical form. The installation borrows the language of an early viewing device, allowing the digital layer to feel embedded in the house rather than placed on top of it.
